Hay Making

Grass freshly cut.

"Tedded" into rows , this is done several times

    to assist drying.

Grass collected and turned into bales.

A round bale!

The only real farming activity undertaken now  at the Curney (unless you count horse grazing)  is makng hay which takes place in late July/early August depending on the weather and the availability of our farming neighbours who cut the hay for us. A fiscally prudent barter system swaps hay in return for their labour.  Normally we take small bales from one field which are used for the horses, and  round bales (see photos) from the others. Our share of theses bales is  either sold or again bartered for services - fence laying etc
