As originally constructed, the house had solid stone walls with lath and plaster on the inside and the heat loss through the walls was very high. All external walls were therefore insulated on the inside - after painstaking removal of  lath and plaster - by using 2"  "kingspan" insulation. Basic method was to  fix 2" x 2" vertical wood battens to all internal walls at approx 16" intervals. This required drilling the batten and stone wall to take 10mm frame anchor screws ( hallelujah for my SDS hammer drill. The insulation was cut to size and placed place between the battens. Plasterboard was then nailed to the battens ready for  plastering
